If you think all of the ideas of people who were “problematic” or otherwise had discriminatory limitations should not be engaged with under any circumstances, then you’re not yet ready for political activity. 😦 Malcolm X? Problematic, had harsher views on women than we usually acknowledge. MLK Jr.? Problematic, strongly alleged to be an adulterer. Audre Lorde? Problematic for some of you since she criticized BDSM (lol). Marsha P. Johnson? Problematic, little known tidbit is that she had harsh views on other Black people. Who else. Marx? Problematic, he said the n-word. Foucault? Don’t get me started. I could go on with all of your faves who are seen as “safe” or “saintly” lol but the point is you can engage with the work of people who had serious flaws without endorsing everything they stood for. You can even still enjoy parts of their work/impact and acknowledge their limitations. Anyway! Have a nice day.
