some exciting/interesting thoughts about the implications of the end of thor: ragnarok:

SPOILERS FOR THOR: RAGNAROK AHEAD MY GUYS

– ok so asgard (the planet) is destroyed and now asgard (the people) are on their way to earth…

– which raises several interesting questions

– first: do they even reach earth?

– in the first credits scene, we see a massive spaceship cross the path of the freighter ship that the asgardians are traveling on. is this thanos? probably

– and if this IS thanos, then what does this mean for the asgardians? will they be massacred by thanos (unlikely)? taken as prisoners of war? is this encounter with thanos the reason why thor ends up hurtling through space and crashing into the milano as seen in the leaked infinity war trailer?

– if the asgardians reach earth, a big question for me is when will they arrive? because if they arrive pre-infinity war, that has a LOT of interesting implications

– earth is already xenophobic af, and has had at least one devastating encounter with alien life (the battle of new york). i think it’s fair to say that they won’t necessarily welcome several hundred/thousand asgardian refugees with open arms.

– what exactly would a huge crowd of extraterrestial refugees mean for a world already experiencing a refugee crisis, better yet one with superheros and alien encounters? will thor attempt to establish asgard as a country on earth? i can’t see them just casually absorbing themselves into, say, american society, especially considering the fear/contempt they’d likely be met with.

– IF the asgardians rearch earth before the events of infinity war and IF their relationship with mankind is complicated and generally negative, then i can see an asgardian presence on earth when thanos arrives to destroy it (i don’t know anything abt infinity war from the comics but i assume at least some of the action will be brought to earth, possibly in the third act) as being VERY interesting to explore. beyond thor, would we see other asgardians take up arms and use their super-strength/skill in battle to defend their new home? could this contribute to helping mend their relationship with mankind?

– cool question: what would a child of an asgardian and a human be like (assuming that they’d intermarry)? would they possess their asgardian parent’s super strength and versatility but their human parent’s comparably miniscule life-span? would they have any special superpowers beyond inhuman strength? how may marvel address/use this in future films?

– (that also leads to how would humans cope with living among people who outlive them by thousands of years?)

– a huge and fascinating point: when the asgardians arrive/infinity war happens, the universe is gonna get a whole lot bigger for midgardians. will having an established demographic of aliens living on earth AND a presumed knowledge of the guardians of the galaxy lead to establishing connections with other worlds? could we see earth joining a star-trekesque coalition to planets in military alliances/to conduct trade? will it become commonplace to see a variety of alien races on earth and humans throughout the galaxy?what will this mean for the future of the avengers, and the guardians, and the marvel cinematic universe in general? an interconnected universe allows for a LOT of things to be explored if marvel goes that route.

– idk these are all just my own geek musings/wonderings bc the idea of earth suddenly being connected to the rest of the galaxy got me really excited
