I’ll be honest, whenever a work of speculative fiction (fanmade or otherwise) goes out of its way to describe an intelligent species with bizarre and complicated reproductive biology, the first question that invariably pops into my head is: “How do these critters masturbate?”
what if masturbation was uniquely a human experience though
Okay, I know that you meant “what if humans are the only intelligent species that’s anatomically capable of masturbating?”, but now I’m picturing a universe where humans are the only ones that ever thought to try it.
Human masturbation specialists traveling the galaxy to offer our gift, undertaking rigorous study and enormous personal risk to teach weird-ass aliens how to rub one out.
Calculating the exact harmonic frequencies to allow ancient, vacuum-dwelling crystalline intelligences to self-stimulate.
Descending into the crushing atmospheres of gas giants in specially constructed aerostats to design sex toys for the vast, jellyfish-like super-predators that prowl the hurricane slipstreams.
Wanking is our genius. Our legacy.
That last addition is possibly my favourite thing Tumblr has ever done for the world.
In Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic stage musical and its brilliant film adaptation The Sound of Music, characters often know they are singing, subverting the generally accepted definition of musicals. Oftentimes during the show this is because the characters are singing known songs, such as Edelweiss, but often they are not, instead they seem to be coming up with the songs they sing on the spot, like Maria does with Do-Re-Mi. This seems to be the case with the song sung by Rolf and Leisl “Sixteen Going on Seventeen”. However, later in the film Maria sings a reprise of this song to Liesl. This would mean that Maria, played by Dame Julie Andrews, is somehow aware of events and subsequent songs that occur without her presence. Maria, in this interpretation, could be seen as somewhat omnipresent and magical, somewhat like Julie Andrew’s other famous musical film role: Mary Poppins. In this essay, I will
my absolute favourite thing about all the old star trek series is when the ship unexpectedly collides with something and, due to the lack of sophisticated special effects available at the time, everyone just throws themselves across the set as dramatically as possible
One thing I loved about Solo is how it restated and confirmed that Han is absolutely /not/ a womanizer : he’s smooth and flirty, but faithful and very much in love with the woman he’s dating, whether it’s Leia or Qi’ra, and all the misogynistic fanboys can shove it.
