This could be articulated better but like… i think one of the worst things to happen with trump is that people have identified him as like the only evil going on in the world and rather than look at issues in general as they’ve existed before his presidency or in other countries… its all just trump.

An example would be canadians patting themselves on the back because of trumps immigration policies when we have a shitty record with immigration detention, treatment of refugees etc. And unjust deportations are happening like right now in Canada. Its not.. a past thing.

Or the british people staging these protests against trumps uk visit when its pretty gd awful itself.

Everyone focuses on trump because its obvious and easy and requires honestly very limited critical thinking because he’s like a caricature of evil and they get their “feel-good” moments from taking a stand against him when its literally the easiest thing to do and then ignore literally everything else going on around them, stuff that’s been going on long before trump, because that stuff requires more effort, or more self-reflection or more critical engagement..

Speak on it!

I feel like another aspect of this problem is people refusing to acknowledge the existing systems of oppression and power dynamics that resulted in Trump getting elected, blaming it all on Russian interference, and going like “oh no why is he president!!!” like America didn’t emerge as a country thanks to slavery and native genocide lmao?? “Not my president”? Unfortunately, he is, and you gotta deal with that instead of sitting there in denial of how Trump could have possibly come to power. Racism, sexism, xenophobia, white supremacy – none of this is new; none of it is specific to America, each country has their own cocktail of bigotry; and it’s not like Trump patented being a bigot either, he’s just powerful, loud, and open about his bigotry. Regardless of Russian interference, we still gotta deal with the systems of oppression/entitlement that have led to bigotry in every country and at every level of political power.

You don’t get a prize for being quiet about your bigotry. You don’t get a pass for your bigotry just because you’re not American / didn’t vote for Trump / whatever. Come the fuck on.
