i’m skeptical of this whole “elect scientists to congress” thing because if academia has taught me anything it’s that people who are very good at science are often very bad at other things that are essential in an elected official
I’ve always wanted scientists to be a part of the political process, not as people who create legislation or policy, rather those who reject or approve it based on their knowledge of their field
Not limited to scientists; also experts in economy, education, agriculture, etc
Politicians are good at politics, and literally nothing else. They can make laws well, but cannot make good laws alone
sure
I’m not at all saying that scientists shouldn’t be politically involved and included in the process, just that this whole “elect people because they’re scientists” isn’t helpful imo
It also plays into that old “experts in one thing are also experts in everything else” trope which is rotting academia from the inside out
