how many other elementary schools had compulsory square dancing lessons

why the hell is this so universal

I’m sorry you had WHAT

is this a Southern thing?

we did the polka in North Carolina

… Florida here, and we never had square dancing classes.  I’ve never heard of anyone under, like, 50, square-dancing

Also in Florida, and we had them in my gifted program but not my regular school.

i lived in tennessee until i was fourteen and i distinctly remember square dancing during gym class. (when i was fourteen we moved to new york and my high school did not teach square dance.)

we had square dancing for one semester of gym in high school my freshman year, in Queens, NY, in 1984.

we did it in my public school in Los Angeles

We did a semester of squaredancing in middle school in Illinois, but yeah, that was over 25 years ago

TIE A YELLOW RIBBON AROUND THE OLD OAK TREE~ (or something)

New Jersey, I spent like three years of middle school learning the dance to the Cotton Eyed Joe (not joking at all)

lol if your middle school didn’t have like three solid weeks of square dancing every january

Middle school, senior year of high school, AND summer camp.

I’m from the prairies in the middle of Canada and we did square dancing, line dancing, and polka starting in elementary school into junior high…so say grades 5-9. According to my mom it’s been a staple in Canada since the 70s

I think there may have been some square dancing once or twice, but I can’t swear on it. However, we did the Virginia Reel CONSTANTLY.

Spent K-12 in Arizona and while there were no defined “lessons”, Phys Ed definitely had sections of both square dancing and line dancing.

im from australia and we did this too
