Where is the Broadway community now that Anthony Rapp is all over the news and subject to scrutiny worldwide?? Anthony Rapp originated an iconic role in one of the most popular musicals of all time and has 9 Broadway credits to his name. He has always been kind and engaging to his fans.
His work in the theatre industry literally put him in a dangerous position as a child, and yet now that he’s come forward about a trauma that happened to him because the world of New York theatre could not keep him safe, the Broadway community is essentially ignoring him. Kevin Spacey was chosen as the HOST of the most recent Tony Awards – a couple of months ago, he was the face of New York theatre. Anthony Rapp is getting a lot of shit right now on social media outlets – people accusing him of lying or exaggerating, blaming him for putting himself in the situation to begin with, criticizing him for not speaking out earlier. Anthony Rapp has contributed so much to the theatre world and I feel like the theatre world has not had his back in this very shitty, very public situation. LET’S DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PLEASE. We need to make it clear that sexual assault, ESPECIALLY when it endangers children, will never be tolerated in the theatre community, no matter how established or renowned the perpetrator is. Please everyone make it clear that we support and defend Anthony!! He has earned it!
